So what was supposed to be a rather boring weekend with really not much planned ended being one of the best weekends. Why? Well, you are the first to read it (other than family who did get phone calls)--Tech and I are officially engaged.
Now some of you are probably not supprised. Others are you are going "Congrats" and yet another group are going "huh?" Well, here is how it went down.
Tech and I have been talking about getting hitched off and on (as a rule, its kinda a good thing to talk about particularly if you are going to move in together--my rule. If you are moving in together, it is obviously more than a casual relationship and personally I am not shacking up with someone if there isnt a long term commitment of some sort there). I knew we would get there eventually, but we were focusing on buying a house--he totally caught me off guard when we went out to dinner on Friday and we landed on the topic of if we were to have a wedding. We have also talked about that in the past but we were somewhat opposite ends of the spectrum on what we wanted (he wanted a ship on the Med, I wanted just he and I on a beach somewhere). But for some reason (and maybe it was the beer) we started agreeing on type of wedding (small) then atmosphere (fun), and then venue and ideas started meshing together...it was a bit odd but refreshing. At that point, he said something to the effect of "Well I think I should make it official, will you marry me?" Which of course, I said yes. We kept chatting about this and that and he said he was going to take me ring shopping the next day. We wrapped upped dinner and made it home--he said something to which I said, "you asked me to marry you, you are so hosed!" Quite the romantic arent I?
So the next day, I researched jewelery stores and mapped out about eight stores to go to. First one, not so much--chain store and cheap stuff. We did find one we liked style wise but nah--I then convinced Tech to skip the next two on our list to go to Arthurs up in Roseville. Oh, so glad we did. The best jeweler ever. We spent three hours there with the owner (yes, the owner) helping us look at everything, educating us and taking the time to get things right. Wow, just an amazing experience. We picked the ring and stone and it was even under budget! We walked out so happy! He even found his (which we will go back for at a later date) there--exactly what he wants. We pick up the ring on Monday (they had to put the stone in and resize it).
So lots more talking and calling people and feeling good about life--I will spare y'all the mushy details. For now, life is not just good but really good. :D
