Detroit Rocks (or at least I am trying to get it that way)

Yup, I am currently hanging out in the Detroit airport waiting for my flight to Canada (eh?) for a conference I am attending through Tuesday. This after a rather interesting flight from the TC with the Gentleman next to me who could not sit still for more than 20 seconds at a pop. I crap you negative on that. He was constantly digging and shuffling and applying hand sanitizer (four applications in a one hour 20 minute flight) and flipping through things and my LORD he was driving me nuts. Thankfully, he is long gone. I am trying now get my I-Pod (which I only use for traveling on a plane, so it has been FOREVER since I have used the darn thing.) in working order again. At least it is getting charged--it may be empty, but it is getting charged up. I have about four more hours to kill here, so why not spend the time grading papers and calling Tech every five minutes so I can prove my lack of technical skills as I try to get music downloaded on it. Fun times.

Interesting Portana travel tidbit--I think this will be the first time I have been on mainland Canada. I have been to Victoria, BC, but that (if I am remembering correctly) is an island off the coast of mainland BC. This trip will mark two new places I have been, Detroit (I dont think I have been through the airport here before or remember ever stepping foot in the state--but again, with the whole bad memory thing) and in a mere five hours, Ottawa. I have been "passported" I dont know how many times already...they do get a little pissy if you dont have the darn thing. Good thing I renewed when I did.

Its kinda nice to have this down time at the airport--things are starting to get hectic as I get more of a life in da big city. In the next few weeks, I have volunteer stuff at the theatre and for the TC marathon (I may not be running right now, but a least I can still support the cause) coming up, one class to wrap up and turn in grades, another class to start up again in a mere two weeks (I need to tweak a few things), doc appointments (I always tend to bundle them all at the same time so I have three in one week and then I dont go for months on end) and a reception that needs to be completed. I thought my busy season was over!! I am actually OK with being this way though--other than work, the things that I am doing are what I enjoy. Now, if they would only pay me mega bucks to teach part time and volunteer, I would be in heaven. Come on lottery!

Tech and I were talking last night about the new house and the fact that this may be the first time in my life that I may actually be "settled." Yes, I have owned houses before, but they were always transitional. I knew I would move from all of the places that I have lived. This house marks the possibility of actually homesteading for the duration (sans retirement back in Montana). Now, life is never predictable--I have proven that. But after the purchase, the likely hood of another move is reduced to minimums. Kind of a weird feeling for me. Not a bad feeling mind you, just different.

Ok, enough pondering stuff. A special shout out to D and (what should be) his new bride. Congrats on the special day--sorry we couldnt make it. Have a BV and Coke for me (ish, I cant believe he drinks that crap). I need to go download music so I have something to listen to--wish me luck.
